BIG Launcher allows you to quickly access your most important contacts directly from your home screen buttons. This guide will walk you through the process of assigning a contact to one of these buttons, explaining the different linking options and important safety features.

Note: The visual appearance of BIG Launcher screens may vary slightly depending on your specific Android version and BIG Launcher updates. This tutorial describes the core functionality which remains consistent.

Step-by-Step Guide to Assigning a Contact

  1. Access Button Settings: From the BIG Launcher home screen, tap the three dots located next to the clock. This will open a menu.
  2. Choose "Set buttons": From the menu that appears, select the option labeled "Set buttons".
  3. Select a Home Screen Button: On the next screen, you will see a list of your home screen buttons. Tap the specific button you wish to assign a contact to.

Understanding Contact Linking Options

Once you've selected a button, you'll be presented with options for how the contact will be linked. There are two primary ways to link a contact:

  • Contact details:

Choosing this option will display the full "Contact details" screen when you tap the assigned button. This is particularly useful if the contact has multiple phone numbers (e.g., home, mobile, work). From the contact details screen, you can then manually choose which number you want to call or send a message to.

  • Direct call/SMS:

If you select "Direct call/SMS", you will first choose a contact, and then specify a particular phone number associated with that contact. When you tap the assigned button, it will directly initiate a call or SMS to that exact number. This offers quicker access but requires careful selection.

The Call Confirmation Dialogue

To help prevent accidental calls, BIG Launcher displays a confirmation dialogue box whenever you tap a contact button configured for direct calling. This message asks you to confirm your action before making the call.

While this confirmation dialogue can be turned off entirely in BIG Launcher’s Preferences, we strongly advise against disabling it. Keeping it enabled helps prevent unintended calls that could be triggered by accidental taps or while simply handling your phone.
