To safeguard your BIG Launcher settings from accidental changes, you can set a password to protect access to the Preferences menu.
Protecting the Preferences Menu
- On the BIG Launcher home screen, locate and tap the three dots next to the clock.
- In the menu that appears, select "Preferences".
- Next, select "Preferences menu".
- Enable the "Protect menu" option.
- Tap "Password" and then enter your desired password.
From this point forward, you will need to enter this password every time you wish to access the Preferences menu.
Note: If the video may show older Android screens, the exact appearance or phrasing of menu items might vary slightly on newer Android versions, but the core functionality should remain similar.
What if you forget or enter a blank password?
If you accidentally set no password, or enter a blank password, simply tap OK when prompted for the password to proceed.
Protecting System Settings
You also have the option to password-protect the "System settings" item within the BIG Launcher menu. However, it's important to understand a limitation:
- Android's internal system functions allow the system settings to be accessed at any time by pulling down the top notification bar. This is a built-in Android feature and cannot be directly disabled by BIG Launcher.
Enhancing System Settings Protection
While the notification bar cannot be fully disabled, you can make accessing system settings through it more difficult:
Go to the BIG Launcher Preferences, navigate to the "Appearance" section, and enable the "Full screen" option. When full screen is enabled:
- The top notification bar will be hidden on the home screen.
- Pulling down the notification bar will require two separate gestures or moves, making accidental access less likely.
