BIG Launcher offers several convenient ways to access its Preferences menu. Please note that while the core functionality remains, specific screen layouts or icons shown in older tutorials might vary slightly from the current BIG Launcher version.
1. Accessing Main BIG Launcher Preferences
From the Home Screen (Three Dots Menu)
The easiest and most common way to access the full BIG Launcher Preferences is directly from your home screen:
- Tap the three dots (menu icon) located next to the clock in the top part of the BIG Launcher home screen.
- From the menu that appears, select "Preferences."
Through the Apps List (Standalone App)
BIG Launcher Preferences are also registered as a standalone application. This method is particularly useful if the three dots menu is not visible or if you need to access preferences from another launcher:
- Open your device's main apps list (app drawer).
- Look for an app named "BIG Launcher Preferences" or similar and tap it.
2. Accessing Preferences Based on Home Screen Layout
If you customize your home screen layout, the method to access Preferences might change:
Two-by-Two Button Layout
When you change the home screen layout to two by two large buttons, the clock and the three dots menu will not be displayed. In this configuration:
- The lower-left button is automatically assigned as a shortcut to the Preferences.
- Caution: If you change the functionality of this specific button, you will no longer be able to access Preferences directly from this layout.
Single Big Button Layout
This layout also removes the clock and three dots menu. Similar to the 2x2 layout, a specific button acts as a shortcut:
- The single large button (or the top-left button in a four-button layout, if that is the implied context from the transcript) may serve as a shortcut.
3. Accessing App-Specific Preferences (BIG Phone, BIG SMS)
BIG Launcher's integrated apps, like BIG Phone and BIG SMS, have their own preferences menus. It's important to note that these are separate and offer fewer options, as they only control settings specific to that particular app.
- BIG Phone: Tap the phone button to launch BIG Phone. You will see "Preferences" as one of the first items in its menu.
- BIG SMS: Tap the envelope button to launch BIG SMS, then choose "Preferences" to display BIG SMS settings only.
To access all global options for BIG Launcher, always use the main "Preferences" menu as described in section 1.
4. Emergency Access (Long Press)
In rare cases where other methods are inaccessible, there's a failsafe option:
- From the main BIG Launcher home screen, hold down the single main button (in a one-button layout) or the top-left button (in a four-button layout) for 30 seconds. This action should eventually bring up the Preferences.
